RR Single Core Earth Wire 10mm²

The RR Single Core Earth Wire 10mm² is a Yellow/Green single-core conductor for main protective earth connections, main bonding conductors, and high fault-current earth paths in UAE commercial and industrial electrical installations. Its 10mm² cross-section provides robust fault current capacity for sub-main earthing systems. Sold per metre.

Key Features

  • 10mm² conductor for main earth and primary bonding applications
  • Yellow/Green insulation for compliant earth conductor identification
  • Robust fault current capacity for sub-main and main earthing
  • PVC insulation for conduit and trunking installations
  • Sold per metre for accurate project quantities

FAQ

  • Why is this wire green/yellow, and does the colour-coding actually matter?
Green/yellow dual-colour insulation is the internationally recognised marking (IEC 60446, carried through into BS 7671 and UAE wiring regulations) reserved exclusively for protective earth (PE) and bonding conductors — no other core in an installation is permitted to use this colour combination. That matters beyond labelling: fast, unambiguous identification during installation, inspection, and fault-finding prevents an earth conductor being confused with a live or neutral core, which is one of the most common causes of a miswired protective connection. The bonding function itself depends on it — every exposed metal enclosure, gland, and extraneous conductive part (structural steel, pipework) must be traced back to the main earthing terminal to form a continuous, low-impedance path, so that under a fault an RCD or circuit breaker trips fast enough to clear the touch-voltage hazard. A conductor that is hard to identify is one that is easy to omit, damage, or disconnect during future works — the colour is what keeps that path intact and verifiable at every stage.
  • What does the 10mm² rating mean, and how do I size the earth conductor for my circuit?
The 10mm² figure is the copper conductor's cross-sectional area, which determines how much fault current it can carry momentarily without overheating before the protective device (fuse, MCB, or RCD) clears the fault. As a general principle under IEC 60364-5-54 / BS 7671 Table 54.7 — the basis for UAE wiring regulations — the protective/earth conductor is sized relative to the associated line conductor: matching cross-section up to 16mm² of line conductor, then roughly half (minimum 16mm²) for larger line conductors. In this catalogue, this 10mm² size is typically specified for sub-main and main earthing runs and main bonding conductors feeding commercial/industrial distribution boards. Always confirm the exact size against your specific circuit design, fault-current calculation, and local wiring regulations — a qualified electrical engineer or electrician should verify the value for your project.
  • Can I order an exact length, and how is the price calculated?
Yes — this earth wire is sold per metre, so you can order any length to match your run (for example 37m or 158m). The listed price is per metre; enter the quantity in metres you need and we cut and supply that exact length. For large or full-reel quantities, contact us for coil pricing.
  • What's the difference between this Earth Wire and RR Kabel's Single-Core Building Wire (line/neutral) range?
Both share the same underlying construction — single-core, stranded plain annealed copper, PVC insulated, rated 450/750V to the H07V-R design (BS EN 50525-2-31, the harmonised successor to BS 6004). The difference is purely the insulation colour and its designated function: the Building Wire range (single colours — red, blue, black, yellow) carries line and neutral conductors, while this Green/Yellow product is manufactured and colour-coded exclusively as the protective earth/bonding conductor. The two should never be substituted for one another on site.
  • Does this need to be installed by a licensed electrician?
Yes. Earthing and bonding conductors are safety-critical fixed wiring — correct sizing, termination, and continuity testing must be carried out by a licensed electrician in accordance with UAE wiring regulations (based on BS 7671/IEC 60364), including verification of earth continuity and loop impedance before the installation is energised.
