FAQ

  • What's the difference between an MCB and an RCCB/RCD?
An MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) protects a circuit against overload and short-circuit faults. An RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker), also known as an ELCB, continuously monitors for earth leakage current and disconnects the supply if current is escaping to earth – protecting against electric shock and fire in a way an MCB cannot.
  • What does the 300mA sensitivity rating mean?
300mA is a higher-sensitivity threshold aimed at fire and equipment protection rather than personal shock protection (which typically needs 30mA). The CF285Z is best used as a main incomer or sub-main device protecting large distribution circuits, with 30mA RCCBs/RCBOs used further downstream on final circuits for personnel protection.
  • How many poles do I need for this circuit?
This is a 2-pole (2P) device, switching both line and neutral. It is intended for single-phase distribution boards and incomers; three-phase boards require a 4-pole equivalent.
  • Can I install this myself?
No. This is a distribution-board-mounted device and must be installed and connected by a licensed electrician in accordance with UAE wiring regulations.
  • Is the CF285Z suitable as a main switch/incomer for a large board?
Yes – at 100A with 300mA sensitivity and a 6kA rated conditional short-circuit current, it is designed for high-load main or sub-main incomer protection on residential, commercial, and industrial boards.
